Fishing in Killarney 2002

Killarney has been a commercial fishing center for over 150 years, and a mecca for sport fishermen since the turn of the century. Northern Pike, Muskie and Bass are the mainstay of fishing on this part of Georgian Bay. Introduced species such as Splake, (the hybrid Speckled/Lake Trout), Rainbow Trout and several varieties of Salmon have further enhanced the fishery. Go east from Killarney to find maxi Walleyes in Mill Lake, Beaverstone Bay, Collins Inlet and "The Chickens", all part of the fascinating maze of islands, bays, channels and backwaters of north Georgian Bay.

Killarney Mountain Lodge has been "fishing central" for 40 years for anyone planning an expedition to the hidden corners of the Georgian Bay. Our local guides have passed down fishing secrets through many generations of Killarney families. We have the local know-how, the gear, the boats - and of course, the fish. Join us in Killarney and enjoy our full-service rustic resort, famous home cooking, the spectacular shoreline of Killarney and some great fishing! Email us to book a fishing package.

ONTARIO MUSKIE ALLIANCE
Killarney Mountain Lodge is a pioneer member of the Ontario Muskie Alliance, formed by the Ontario government to spotlight the often overlooked and under-appreciated Ontario Muskie fishery. Like so much about Killarney that is unknown and undiscovered, Muskie fishing is a secret treasure familiar only to those fortunate souls who, by accident or design, suddenly found their landing net heavy with a thrashing Muskie, often mistaking their catch for a record breaking Northern Pike. Now the word is out and Muskie fans will discover a pugnacious Muskie population lurking in the secluded coves and channels of north Georgian Bay, where catch and release is the fashion.

TACKLE
You'll find a wide variety of everything you need in our Tackle Shop and replacements for all the stuff you've lost or forgotten. And live bait, too (we're a licensed Bait Harvester and Dealer). If you arrive completely empty handed, we can rent you a pole and landing net and a tackle box full of tasty lures.

We're also dealers for government hydrographic charts. You may want to have one if you're planning to go solo fishing. Lots of people do, incidentally, and our marina folks can get you started in the right direction with lots of advice on how, where and when to find the fish. Frequently, we recommend a guide for your first day on the water just to help you get your bearings.
