When you explore the wilderness archipelago east of Killarney by kayak, a gourmet cook- out will appear at noon like a mirage, complete with tablecloths and sizzling steaks. Discovering Group of Seven country among the precious interior lakes of Killarney Provincial Park by canoe will be a never-to-be-forgotten experience. So too is the all day sail, complete with the skipper’s elaborate buffet served aboard in a tranquil anchorage.
Two dramatic outings will round out your Killarney adventure. For the fit and energetic, a trip by outboard, canoe and trail to the top of Silver Peak, one of the highest promontories in Ontario, will afford a spectacular view of Georgian Bay and the Park below.
Don’t miss the cruise to picturesque Baie Fine, an eleven mile fjord graced with dazzling white quartzite cliffs. On arrival at “The Pool”, where the fjord blossoms into a hidden anchorage, a short climb will take you to Topaz Lake, one of the three “Crater Lakes” that adorn Baie Fine like an azure tiara. Resisting a pre-lunch swim in Topaz is just about impossible.
The Baie Fine excursion includes a special bonus for dedicated nature lovers – an optional “return to base” on foot from Baie Fine via a 13 kilometre portion of the celebrated Silhouette Trail. The three hour hike penetrates the interior of Killarney Park., with views of remote lakes, beaver ponds and colourful rock formations. Be camera ready for eagles, deer, moose, bears and foxes.
